souGreek Chicken "Avgo Lemono"
Soup has been eaten by Greeks for centuries. The mainstream populace has been
exposed to it in America mostly in Greek Restaurants and by those lucky enough
to have had a Greek friend make it for them. It is made basically the same, yet
there are many variations. "Our Version" is a combination of all the Houllis
family members of which there are many. When Manuel Houllis opened his
restaurant in 1963 on Clearwater Beach Florida he used his families way of
making the soup. For the next 30 years his restaurant became World famous, and
one of its treasured features was the soup. During those 30 years he tweaked
the recipe as he heeded the feedback of 1000's of customers, until he perfected
the recipe to mainstream America. The overwhelming majority of the customers
were non Greeks. It was the tourists from all over the country and the world
who were raving about it. Greek Avgo Lemono Soup is a very unique soup. "Our
Version" is the best you will ever eat. It is not by luck or accident. Hundreds
of thousand of people enjoyed at the Island House Restaurant over 30 years.
Thousands of compliments were made about it. The final version "Ours" evolved
from the customers and marketplace itself. comments.
